Harlan County, USA is an Academy Award winning documentary film about the struggle of mine workers on against the Duke Power Company in Harlan County, Kentucky in 1973. The miners lived in desperate conditions, while Duke Power boasted 100% profits and used violence to try to break the strike. This documentary is a moving snapshot of the struggle for economic justice in the Appalachian mountains of Kentucky. It was directed by Barbara Kopple, who has long been an advocate of workers' rights.
